A Coruña, February 14, 2025 – The Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA) today held its Governing Council, coinciding with the beginning of its activities in person at the headquarters of Casa Veeduría in A Coruña. The Governing Council is, together with the Presidency, the governing body of the Agency, which is responsible for the high management of the entity, as well as the establishment of its general guidelines for action.
This Governing Council, consisting of six representatives from various ministries, an expert in Artificial Intelligence and the Director-General of AESIA, meets today for the first time in A Coruña to take stock of the first months of activity and to set the objectives of the Agency for 2025.
The celebration of the Governing Council coincides with the beginning of the face-to-face activity of the workers of AESIA in the central Casa de Veeduría de A Coruña, after its installation this February. The AESIA has a space on the first floor of the building, which will be the temporary headquarters of the Agency, while the comprehensive reform of La Terraza, the official destination of AESIA, is carried out.
Taking advantage of this quote, the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service, Óscar López, has visited the headquarters of AESIA in Veegro, together with the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, María González Veracruz, who is also the President of the Agency.
This is an important milestone for the Agency, both for its employees, who had initially developed their functions in the teleworking mode, and for the entity itself, which already has a working and collaborative space that will allow it to continue to grow and develop all the functions entrusted to it by Spanish and European legislation.
Following the adoption of the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation, AESIA assumes a crucial role in monitoring compliance with this regulation, the ultimate aim of which is consumer protection. The Agency is also key to moving towards a reliable, ethical and human-centered AI and is a pioneer in Europe, a mirror to which other countries are already looking. In addition, it is a fundamental institution for the promotion of the Artificial Intelligence ecosystem in Spain, and especially SMEs and startups with fewer resources, as AESIA will accompany them in compliance with the requirements of the new legislation and, in general, in their process of integrating a safe and reliable AI into their processes.
The face-to-face incorporation of AESIA into this house of Veeduría, is also a further step in the decentralization of the State Administration, and it is from a city like A Coruña, which has an important university ecosystem both in training and in research related to Artificial Intelligence and with a powerful business fabric in the ICT sector.
Added to this very exciting milestone for the Agency is the recent publication of its website, which is already available through https://aesia.digital.gob.es/es
