The Laboratory

The AESIA Ideas Lab was created to foster research, innovation, and debate on the development and responsible use of AI. Our mission is to anticipate, analyze, and evaluate the impacts of AI to promote its ethical and safe use.

A space for dialogue and action for strategic anticipation and participatory governance of AI

The Ideas Lab is conceived as a space for analysis and the generation of specialized knowledge. It will feature leading Spanish experts in the field of AI, including specialists in its practical application and impact on technology, law, education, philosophy, equality, labor relations, and human rights.

The Ideas Lab will analyze the impact of AI in all its facets, gathering the perspectives and experiences of diverse groups and social actors in an inclusive and participatory manner. Our goal is to create robust proposals for action to address the problems, challenges, and opportunities that AI creates in society. We aim to bridge the gap between the dynamism of the productive sector, the protection of citizens rights, and the legislative agenda.

Expert knowledge will be integrated with the perspectives and concerns of diverse sectors of society. Through participatory activities, collaborative AI governance will be fostered. The results of our work will translate into actions with real impact, such as the proposal of public policies that support the responsible, sustainable, and reliable development of AI.

How we work

The Ideas Lab has an Advisory Committee as a key consultative body to guide and enhance our activities. It is composed of renowned experts representing all sectors of society, ensuring an informed and inclusive dialogue. The Advisory Committee members are divided into four sectors: academia, business, public sector, and social agents.

In the Advisory Committee sessions, its members contribute their expertise to identify the challenges and opportunities that AI presents in terms of equality, ethics, the economy, and society. They promote evidence-based analysis and expert knowledge, adhering to the principles of independence, rigor, and transparency. The results of their work, presented in reports and strategic analysis notes, are essential for the Ideas Lab to define its lines of work and activities.

Based on the analysis carried out by the Advisory Committee, working groups are formed, which constitute sectoral and specialized debate forums, focused on topics where the impact of AI is key, such as gender bias, disinformation, the labor market, minors or the education system.

Its operation focuses on a deep understanding of the situation and the definition of concrete and effective actions:

Ética 1. Analysis

We identify trends, challenges, social, economic, ethical and legal impacts; also opportunities for innovation, economic growth and competitiveness.

Transparencia 2. Collaboration

We gather the concerns of all sectors of society through participatory meetings with citizens, associations, businesses, and other stakeholders, and integrate them to enrich the proposals of the experts who make up the working groups.

Innovación 3. Action

The conclusions and results of the working groups are translated into recommendations for public policies, studies or other initiatives whose objective is to promote the development of reliable AI that benefits people.

The working groups

The working groups are created to promote debate on AI governance, gather the views of different social and economic actors, and anticipate the impacts of this technology on society in order to guide its use and deployment.

These groups will feature renowned figures of excellence and leadership from both national and international circles, and will include representatives from various sectors. Their objective is to foster social consensus to anticipate the impact of AI, incorporating the concerns of citizens and the different stakeholders involved.

The analyses and conclusions of the working groups will be compiled into reports that examine the trends, challenges, impacts, and opportunities of AI in specific areas. These reports will serve to identify best practices in the development of ethical and safe AI, emerging risks, and areas where regulation and policies will need to be adapted to address new challenges.

The Ideas Lab is launched with a proposal of 4 lines of work, focused on the following themes:

  • Women and AI
  • Disinformation and AI
  • Minors and AI
  • Labor market and AI

The first two, “Women and AI” and “Disinformation and AI”, will begin their work with the constitution of the Advisory Committee on April 9, 2026.
