In the framework of the Hispania 2040 event, the president of the Government Pedro Sánchez has announced the publication and availability for all users of the first models of ALIA, the family of models of AI in Spanish and co-official languages designed to promote research in this field and develop technological solutions in Spanish, the fourth most spoken language in the world and the second most used in the Internet.
These models are now available in https://alia.gob.es/.
In addition, the President of the Government has announced that work is underway to implement ALIA in two pilot projects: an internal chatbot that will streamline the work of the Tax Agency and its citizen care; and an application in primary care medicine that, based on advanced data analysis, will allow "an early and more accurate diagnosis of heart failure".
ALIA: the public infrastructure of AI in Spanish and co-official languages
ALIA is a pioneering initiative in the European Union that seeks to provide a public infrastructure of AI resources, such as open and transparent language models, to promote the impulse of Spanish and co-official languages - Catalan and Valencian, Basque and Galician - in the development and deployment of AI in the world. This is the first open and multilingual European public infrastructure which, thanks to the unique supercomputing capabilities of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, strengthens the technological sovereignty of Spain and Europe in the development of a transparent, responsible and at the service of people.
It is an open project distinguished by transparency, in line with the AI Regulation and openness to drive innovation and the adoption of technologies, ensuring technological reliability and social and economic inclusion. The family of ALIA models is verified by the Spanish Artificial Intelligence Supervision Agency (AESIA) and is aligned with the transparency standards established by the AI Regulation.
The implementation of ALIA is one of the key pillars of Estrategia de Inteligencia Artificial 2024.
